Important information before you get started

This memory book saves only to your device — nothing is stored on our servers or shared with us. That means keeping it safe is entirely in your hands.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Check with your supervising social worker first. Some fostering agencies have specific guidance about storing information digitally. If yours does, follow their guidance — this tool is designed to sit alongside official records, not replace them.
  • Save it somewhere secure. We recommend following your agency's protocols on this. Many agencies would suggest using an encrypted USB stick — this keeps it separate from your everyday files and makes it easy to hand over or delete at the end of a placement. Most USB sticks can be encrypted through your computer's built-in settings (BitLocker on Windows, FileVault on Mac).
  • Back it up somewhere secure. Keep a second copy somewhere equally secure in case it's lost or damaged. Do not back it up to a shared or family cloud account.
  • At the end of a placement, hand over the encrypted USB, or export the book to PDF, then hand it over to the child's social worker. Make sure you have no other copies available to you. This Life Story belongs to the child — not to you, and not to us.
  • Never share the file by email or WhatsApp. If you need to share anything with a social worker, use the PDF export and send it through whatever secure channel your agency uses.
